Futsal Set Pieces: corners, kick-ins, free kicks

Practical ideas + video examples. Use this as a “library”: pick 2–3 routines per cycle and make them automatic.

Basics before the videos

Set pieces work when you have structure and timing. A simple checklist for any routine:

  • Starting positions: who creates the passing line, who is the decoy, who finishes.
  • First pass: always have a safe option to keep possession.
  • Second action: immediately after the pass – run, screen, rotation, diagonal movement.
  • Plan B: if the shot is blocked – switch side / reset / play to the far post.
  • Signal: a short call/gesture so everyone starts at the same moment.
Tip: choose 2 corner routines and 2 kick-in routines + 1 free-kick routine. That’s enough to create chances immediately.

Corners — video ideas

Common principles: decoy to the near post, shot from the top, run to the far post, screens, and quick short plays.

Kick-ins — video ideas

Kick-ins are “mini-corners”. Ideas: quick pass inside for a shot, run in behind, wall pass, fake run and switch to the far side.

Free kicks — video ideas

What usually works: (1) direct shot, (2) short pass for a 2nd-wave shot, (3) decoy + pass to the far post or into the box. Keep it simple: 1–2 actions and finish.

How to train set pieces (simple & effective)

  • Week 1: 2 corners + 2 kick-ins. No pressure — timing and roles.
  • Week 2: add defenders (50–70% resistance) + a mandatory “Plan B” (keep possession).
  • Week 3: transfer to games: 1–2 signals, clear takers, rotate roles.
  • Key: short blocks (10–12 minutes) but often.
  • Quality control: 5 correct repetitions in a row → then increase difficulty.
